Facial Hair and Advertising

While on Relevant’s site, I came upon a link to a site called Moustache Me.  Basically you can buy small decal moustaches to stick on, what they would refer to as, “mundane, un-interesting marketing messages.”  Being one who is a fan of clever street art and graffiti and who loathes bad advertising, I was immediately intrigued by this idea.  There is, of course, a code of conduct, which you can read on the site.  We don’t want any vandals taking part in this liberation of all those awful adverts.  Go on over and join the revolution!

Speaking of moustaches…click HERE for a little surprise.

Collide Magazine

I wanted to show this for a couple of reasons.  First, for anyone who hasn’t heard of Collide Magazine, I wanted to make you aware.  It’s a great, hip magazine about the church and media.  Very much along the lines of Relevant Magazine, it is incredibly innovative, well put together, and on the on the forefront of Christian magazines.  This brings me to my second reason for posting this:  Collide also has great design.  This is the newest issue and the cover design is great.  I don’t yet have a subscription, but that will change soon.  Click on the links and have them send you a free copy.  That’s what I did and I wasn’t disappointed.

It’s Here…

Yep.  They’ve gone too far.

Humans and Creativity

cslreading.jpg

While blogging today I came upon a great quote by C.S. Lewis on creativity:

“Creation” as applied to human authorship seems to me an entirely misleading term.  We make, we re-arrange elements He has provided.  There is not a vestige of real creativity in us.  Try to imagine a new primary colour, a third sex, a fourth dimension, or even a monster which does not consist of bits of existing animals stuck together.  Nothing happens.  And that surely is why our works never mean to others quite what we intended:  because we are re-combining elements made by Him and already containing His meanings.  Because of those divine meanings in our materials it is impossible we should ever know the whole meaning of our own works, and this meaning we never intended may be the best and truest one.

What an ironic thing for one of the most creative writers of the 20th century to say.  How amazing that the Creator of the universe allows us, His creation, to be creative beings.  We get to “mess” with His already perfect creation and make our own creations through various artistic endeavors.  He even allows us to share in His joy of creating life.  Everything we have is His.  Thank God He shares.

Rob Bell’s Tour DVD

Two things about this

  1. The cover design is amazing.  I believe the design is by Flannel.  They have done all the design for his books as well as the Nooma series.
  2. I can’t wait to get this.  Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to see the tour when it came to Indianapolis so I’m super pumped to see the DVD.  It’s slated for release in June.  I’m a big fan of both of his books as well as his first DVD.  I would recommend checking them out.
