I was happy to find out that Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova, stars of the movie Once, won the Oscar for Best Song In a Motion Picture during Sunday’s ceremony. I’m a huge fan of the movie as well as the soundtrack so this exciting news was music to my ears, so to speak. Unfortunately, I slept through the Oscars and didn’t get to see the acceptance speeches or their performance of the winning song. The duo made Oscar history when Irglova was given a second chance to give a speech. After Hansard had finished his thank-you’s, the orchestra began to play and Irglova was only able to get out a short “Thank you” before the broadcast went to commercials. After the commercial break, she was invited back onstage by host Jon Stewart to give her acceptance speech, a first for the Academy Awards. In case you missed it, as I did, here are some links to the performance as well as the speeches.
