I’ve Got Competition

Yesterday I received this menacing picture in an email from Mr. Scott Miller.  It’s a good thing my Mom taught me how to share.

I Met Mrs. Right

I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted, however I have a perfectly good reason:  I was on Spring Break and so I decided to, well, take a break.  My deepest apologies to all of you who have been waiting on the edge of your seat for a new post.  I have some good news though.  I met a new lady over break and her name is Cinnamon Buns and she is oh so good.  She is sweet, sticky, and she always listens to me.  I think she’s the one.  I’d love you to meet her.  Click here to be wooed by her charm and beauty.

P.S.  Thanks to Chris for introducing me to my lady.

Breakfast With An Old Friend

Here’s a link to a post on the blog of my close friend and pastor of 8 years, Scott Miller.  Just after the new year, he and I had breakfast together and talked about my post-graduation plans and everything that was happening with CENTERPOINT.  A day after we sat down and talked he (unbeknownst to me) put up this post on his blog.  I came upon it a few weeks ago and it was so encouraging and exciting for me to read.  It’s great to look back and see where God has led me over the past 7 years.  It was also great to read this and get encouragement and confirmation from someone I love and respect about something that God is doing in my heart and life.  I’m so excited to see what the next 7 years will bring.  Both for Scott and everyone at Pathway, and for the gang at CENTERPOINT as we begin this amazing journey.

New Screen Setup

So I’ve been trying out a new screen setup with my two monitors and so far I like it a lot.  For one thing, I’ve started hiding my dock, which I had never been a fan of before, however it gives me full use of my screen which I am a big fan of.  I also moved my menu bar (and dock) from my primary monitor (the iMac) to my secondary 19” monitor.  I’ve been enjoying the new configuration the most as I use Photoshop or Illustrator.  Basically, on the right screen I have my document full size and I moved all of my toolbars and palettes over to the left screen and expanded them as much as they would go.  So I have one screen full of just palettes and tools and on the other screen is only my image.  I love it.  Above you will see a screenshot of both of my screens side by side.  Click on the pic to view it larger.

Warhol Comes Knocking on Gap’s Windows

gap-nyc.jpg

As I walked through the mall a couple of weeks ago, I passed by the Gap and noticed a gynormous self-portrait of Andy Warhol in the window.  Next to it was another huge print of another one of Warhol’s pieces.  Being a fan of Warhol, I was, at first, happy to see his artwork in such an unexpected place.  I was then a bit annoyed that such a groundbreaking artist was reduced to the walls of a local mall hotspot.  I’ve seen Warhol merchandise at other much more artsy stores but never at a store where you can go in at any point in the season and pretty much always know what’s going to be on the shelves and always walk out looking the same as everybody else.  (I’m not dissing the Gap at all.  Believe me I’ve bought my fair share of button down shirts and I still always go in to look around whenever I’m in the mall).  As I thought about all of this I realized that Warhol would have loved the fact that his mug was in the windows of this retail giant.  Warhol was all about sameness, mass production, consumer culture, and fame.  He would have loved it that his artwork was being shown in a store that is known for mass-producing the same basic clothing every season.  Being that he was all about creating an image and being as famous as he could be, he would have enjoyed that his artwork would have such a mass viewing and that it would show up in virtually every mall in America for every average Joe to see and not just those who show up in museums or galleries.  I think it’s also interesting that Warhol started out as a window dresser in New York in the early stages of career and now, as he has reached icon status, he returns to the job of decorating windows.

By the way, I’m no longer annoyed and I think it’s great that Warhol’s work can be seen by such a widespread audience.  Just thought we should clear that up.
